Well, the unthinkable happened to me while visiting my parents in San Antonio this past week. My dad had a convention to attend in San Antonio and my mom accompanied him. Since SA is only 180 miles away, Samuel and I made the trek over to keep them company while they were there. Sam and I drove over Tuesday afternoon and came back yesterday. Tuesday evening we all went to the convention center for a couple of hours and then took advantage of the beautiful evening and went to have dinner on the RiverWalk. We had a wonderful mexican feast and then rode the river boat. We returned to my car, which was parked in a normal, rundown, downtown parking lot and went back to our hotel to retire for the evening. Wednesday morning was a normal morning UNTIL mom, Sam and I went to get in the car for a day of shopping. I was putting Sam in his car seat and realized that our DVD players were not where not hanging on the back of the headrests as they had been! I asked my mom if she saw them anywhere and she did not. We then called my dad (who had to be at the convention all day) to ask if maybe he'd taken them out so they weren't visible to passers by. He had not taken them out. MY DVD PLAYERS WERE GONE - STOLEN!!! I then had a sinking feeling and lifted up the console lid only to find that the DVD case with all our DVD's was also gone, AS WELL AS BRYAN'S GPS he had gotten from me for Christmas!!! I immediately started to cry as I realized that some horrible person had broken into my car and taken hundreds of dollars worth of MY things. I was so mad, so heartbroken, so sick to my stomach that I could hardly function. My mom went into the hotel to tell the manager who called the police. Whoever this person was, they knew exactly what they were doing. There were no broken windows and upon further inspection we discovered the door handle had been cut and pulled partially away from the door itself. The police officer showed up, took down all my info and then we decided to call an investigator to see if they could collect any fingerprints. This took quite some time but hopefully this will prove to be helpful in catching this horrible thief!!! Sam kept this terrible situation light-hearted. He asked the policeman, "Hey, why'd you take my movies?" The policeman assured him that he did not take his movies but would do whatever he could to get them back. I know these are only material things and I am very thankful that my car was not stolen or that nobody was hurt in this fiasco. BUT, I am still furious about it and very hurt by the whole thing. I know it happens everyday but it has never happened to ME and I don't care for it ever to happen to me again!!! My parents replaced our DVD players that very same day. They felt so bad about the whole situation and said it wouldn't have happened if they hadn't asked us to come visit them. Of course, it is NOT their fault and I don't think the above for one moment!!! But, the new DVD's are wonderful and were very helpful for our 2 1/2 hour trip home. The GPS will take a little longer to replace. In the meantime, my dad MADE me take his GPS home with me until we can get a replacement for ours. This is all just a reminder to me that we live in a sinful world and that Christians ARE NOT exempt from terrible things, as we all know.
